Girl injured on holiday awarded compensation

A girl has been awarded £6,600 compensation after a shower door shattered and injured her.

She was 11 at the time and the incident happened when she was staying in a cottage on holiday.

She suffered cuts to her right arm, abdomen, and feet, and a deep laceration to her thumb when the glass panel broke.

Most of the cuts had healed within 17 months but she continued to have discomfort when using scissors because of the deep cut to her thumb. That is expected to resolve gradually over time, although her thumb will remain permanently scarred.

The girl said that the owner of the cottage had been negligent under the Occupiers’ Liability Act 1957 and took action against him.
